The simple maths behind a good fit

Change the size.
Keep the relationship.

An aspect ratio describes how width relates to height. A 1920 × 1080 image and a 1280 × 720 image both reduce to 16:9. Their dimensions differ; their shape does not.

Ratiolet reduces the original whole-pixel dimensions by their greatest common divisor. To calculate a missing dimension, it applies the same scale factor to both sides.

new height = new width × original height / original width

Questions, in proportion.

Does this tool resize image files?

No. Ratiolet calculates dimensions; it does not open, upload or modify your images. Use the resulting dimensions in your image editor or layout software.

What if the missing dimension is not a whole number?

The tool displays up to four decimal places and also gives the nearest whole-pixel size. Rounding may slightly change the ratio. Choose dimensions that divide evenly when exact proportions matter.

Can I enter any size?

Original and target dimensions must be whole pixels from 1 to 10,000,000. The calculated missing dimension can be fractional. Very wide or tall previews are schematic and visually bounded so their labels stay usable.

Are my calculations saved?

No. There are no network requests, cookies, analytics or saved histories in the tool. Copy the dimensions before you close the tab.
